I am originally from Utah, and before I ever became a dentist, I was actually interested in joining the healthcare profession for a long time. I initially planned to become a medical doctor. I received a bachelor’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography and worked in a hospital imaging center, which I did happily for about 8 years. Dentistry first came onto my radar thanks to my brother-in-law, who himself is a dentist.
Through him, I came to see that dentistry would be a great fit for me, as it allowed me to combine my love for science, art, and working with my hands in order to truly help people. I also liked the independence being a dentist afforded, as it enabled me to dedicate as much time as I wanted to my wife and five children.
After my undergrad at Weber State University and Utah State University, I attended the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry (at this point, I was already married and had the aforementioned five children!). Thanks to their support, I was able to not only complete dental school, but I also began practicing here in this beautiful area. I still take as many hours of continuing education as I can every year and have gone through both the Biomet Synergy Training Program as well as multiple Gordon Christensen and ADA courses. I believe it’s essential to stay on top of the latest advances in dentistry in order to provide the best possible care.
Overall, I have spent over 10 years practicing and learning about dentistry, and I’ve certainly enjoyed it. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing improvement in the oral health, appearance, and function of a patient and knowing that I’ve helped in some way.
When not spending time with my wonderful wife, three sons, and twin girls, you’ll most often find me doing something outdoors, whether that’s snow skiing, mountain biking, running, hiking or camping. Of course, one of my favorite things is just watching my children participate in their various activities (soccer, gymnastics, cross country, etc.). I’m also a huge Star Wars fan, and I even own (and will wear when the occasion calls) a complete Stormtrooper costume!
I am very active in my church, and I am also a supporter of Miriam’s House, an organization that provides outreach and services for our homeless population. I also like to work with Girls on the Run, The Boy Scouts of America (earned Eagle Scout rank), Gleaning for the World, and CVU Soccer. Basically, if it helps to put a smile on people’s faces, I’m all for it!
